‘Professional Leadership in Architectural Biodiversity’: this is the award granted by the Green Building Council (USA), in June 2020, to Stefano Boeri and his Team, defined as pioneers of Biodiversity “for their commitment to make the architecture a sphere of life, thanks to a design focused on natural biodiversity, vision and projects of a sustainable future city accessible to all”.

Thanks to the building of the Vertical Forest in Milan, the U.S. Green Building Council and Green Business Certification Inc. (international non-governmental bodies which, with the LEED certification, represent the most widespread certification system for green buildings in the world) are developing new parameters to include greenery and trees in certification protocols.

Stefano Boeri and his firm have been carrying out constant research for years in support of sustainable urban development, where domestic and public greenery can safeguard and increase local biodiversity. Among Boeri’s projects, in addition to the first Vertical Forest in Milan and its variants in the world (Eindhoven, Nanjing, Tirana and Cairo), there are big green architectures such as the Rehabilitation Centre of Shenzhen, China, the planning of future Forest Cities (such as the Smart Forest City in Cancun, Mexico, and the green and experimental district of Tirana Riverside, Albania).
