SMART BUILDINGS: NEW CEI WHITE PAPER PUBLISHED

 In News

The CEI – Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano (Italian Electrotechnical Committee) has published the new White Paper “Smart Building”, a free and innovative document aimed at fostering the development of technologies for energy-efficient buildings.

Prepared by a working group within the framework of Comparison Table 3 “Energy Transition”, the White Paper provides support to, among others, designers and installers in the construction, tertiary and public administration sectors, also with a view to interventions within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP).

Recent national and European guidelines and action programmes have further accelerated the themes of decarbonisation, energy efficiency and modernisation, in technological and digital terms, of the entire construction sector, determining that epochal leap that foresees, already starting in the next few years, the construction and deep renovation of buildings to make them ‘zero emission’ (ZEB) and in fact anticipating the objectives that the European Union has set for 2050.

Starting from the PNRR, ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and Taxonomy, some additional challenges are specifically introduced that will accompany us all along the path towards the decarbonisation of the sector through the achievement of energy efficiency levels more restrictive than the current regulatory framework, and in particular for all those investments that will contribute substantially to the achievement of the goal of climate change mitigation.

From this point of view, the Smart Building represents the solution through which it is possible to reduce final energy consumption and favour the diffusion of energy produced from renewable sources, transforming the current energy structure dependent on fossil fuels into an efficient system in terms of exploiting energy resources.

An intelligent building must be seen as a system in which aspects of plant engineering, plant automation, sensor technology, connectivity, information and communication, digital technologies, Edge Computing, and Artificial Intelligence coexist in an integrated manner to enable new functions, services to occupants, comfort and well-being, and personalisation of services. This will enable users’ energy demand to be geared to the needs of the electricity grid and participate fully in Smart Grids solutions.
