The new school
for lift maintenance technicians

 In News

New lift maintenance technicians will be trained at school. Everything is ready for the IFTS course for ‘Maintenance technician for lifts, goods lifts and home lifts’ organised by the Aslam school in collaboration with some trade associations in our sector and financed by the Lombardy Region with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and the Ministry of Education and Merit. The creation of the course has been strongly desired by Elevatori Magazine, which is well aware of the huge problem of finding qualified labour in our sector.

The first edition of the course is scheduled to start in 2023.

How the course came about

At the end of 2021, Elevatori Magazine was invited by Aslam (a training organisation with 5 branches in Lombardy, plus one in Sardinia) to the inauguration of its new headquarters in Milan (dedicated to Logistics). From an initial discussion that took place on this occasion, Aslam approached our magazine to collaborate on this new adventure: a post-diploma training course for lift operators.

Right from the first meetings, all trade associations and consortia in the lift sector active at national level were invited to participate in the initiative. Three of them (Anica, CPI, Tre-E) immediately gave their willingness to commit themselves to building up the lesson plans and to actively support the development of this new school. Within a short time, they were able to procure the machinery to set up the necessary workshops. To have stimulated and promoted the birth of this course is for us at Elevatori Magazine a great success and a source of pride: involving young people in our sector is vital for the future of our companies, which are often unable to support training courses internally on their own.

The course structure

The post-diploma course for ‘Maintenance Technician for Elevators, Goods lifts and Home lifts’ will be open to students up to the age of 24, resident or domiciled in Lombardy (Italy), in possession of a High Secondary Education Diploma or Professional Diploma. The course will be held at Aslam’s Milan headquarters at Via Carlo Amoretti ,78.

Students will be accompanied on a one-year learning path through a contract that includes within it classroom training alternating with practical workshops (400 hours) and in-company training (for another 400 hours).

Enrollment in the course implies the administration of a first-level apprenticeship contract, aimed at achieving a certificate of specialization recognized throughout Europe. At the end of this contract, the student will have accrued the necessary requirements for the issuance of the so-called ‘patentino’, the certificate of qualification for lift maintenance in Italy. Aslam is working so that, at the end of the course, the students will also be able to take the examination for the ‘patentino’, in cooperation with the government institution.

Companies

Companies in the industry can actively participate in the course for ‘Maintenance Technician for Elevators, Goods lifts and Home lifts’.

They can do this in many ways:

  • by having its own professionals participate as lecturers in the classroom to bring practical experience to the students (testimonials from industry entrepreneurs, technical experts, designers, and regulatory experts are all valuable moments to enrich the cultural background of course participants);
  • contributing to the expansion of the workshops at school (by providing their products for practical classroom exercises);
  • by giving their willingness to host one of the course participants for in-company internship (the course in fact provides for in-company placement with a 10-month apprenticeship contract).

Contact

Companies and professionals can give their willingness to host students on an apprenticeship contract, contribute to the running of the courses and/or the expansion of the workshops, by filling out the form on the ASLAM Social Cooperative website www.aslam.it, or by writing to aslam@aslam.it.

The same references can also be used by young people who would like to apply to participate in the course: selections are already open and the course is limited in number.
