Session 2

15.30 The London Plan 2021 and its implications for lift system design.

Adam Scott, CLG Chair and Technical Director – Vertical Transportation of Sweco

March 2021 saw the publication of the new London Plan. This document is a Spatial Development Strategy for Greater London and set out a framework for how London will develop over the next 20-25 years. The Plan is part of the statutory development plan for London, meaning that the policies in the Plan should inform decisions on planning applications. The Plan has implications for the provision of both firefighters and evacuation lifts in buildings, however guidance on how to meet these requirements remains in draft format currently and is not particularly clear.

This session explores the requirements of the Plan and sets the scene for later sessions on engagement and lobbying from the lift industry bodies seeking clarity on the guidance.
