Elevatori opens the VFA Forum with Luca Borgonovo. Videos

 In Interlift 2022

Also for 2022, during the four days of Interlift, the usual VFA Forum will be held, an event in which Elevatori Magazine has always participated with high-profile contributions from the experts who write for the magazine.

Also in the year of our 50th anniversary, Elevatori Magazine is present in great style: in fact, we opened the kermesse with the first speach of the first day of the Forum, on April 26th.

On this occasion, the audience present in Augsburg was able to listen to the speach of Luca Borgonovo (Director for Business Development and Codes, SMI Italia) who talked about the regulations governing the modification of existing escalators and moving walkways.

Borgonovo (who is a member of the European Escalator Code Committee CEN TC 10/WG2, which is in charge of preparing new revisions and interpretations for EN 115-1, EN 115-2, EN 115-5) then took stock of the enormous opportunity that their modernization represents for elevator companies.

The Italian UNI 10411-15:2018 standard, is Borgonovo’s thesis, can be a Best Practice model for Europe and the escalator industry.

THE SPEECH OF LUCA BORGONOVO

In his speech, Luca Borgonovo started from some considerations related to the fact that there is no specific CEN standard addressing modifications to existing escalators and moving walks. Yet more than 136,500 escalators and moving walks are in use today in the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Of these, nearly 50% were installed more than 20 years ago.

Regarding Italy, then, Borgonovo explained that the reality of existing escalator modifications in Italy has not been regulated and could become potentially dangerous due to the lack of expertise of some operators.

Starting from these considerations, Borgonovo then made an analysis of the UNI 10411-15:2018 standard ‘Alterations to existing Escalators and moving walks’.

You can read in the next months on the pages of Elevatori Magazine the insights on these issues written by Luca Borgonovo.
