Building safety and the management of fire scenarios are receiving closer attention than ever, and the lift industry is having to respond to requirements that are increasingly detailed. Against this background, the contribution a door can make to containing smoke and fire is becoming more and more significant, above all in buildings where safety and the compartmentation of spaces are fundamental to the design.

The new HYDRA TwinShield door, developed by Wittur, answers precisely this shift in the market, with a solution that brings together reliability, performance and technological innovation.

TwinShield is Wittur’s evolution of the Hydra door, a product already well known and well appreciated in the market for its reliability, robustness, ease of installation and build quality. To these it adds one important new characteristic: resistance to the spread of cold smoke and to fire, achieved through the integration of innovative, patented technologies and design solutions.

TwinShield combines conventional fire resistance, compliant with EN 81-58 (class E or EI), with resistance to the passage of cold smoke in accordance with EN 1634-3:2004, obtaining the “Sa” classification (resistance to the passage of smoke at ambient temperature).

Wittur TwinShield, being based on the Hydra platform, retains the same overall dimensions and space requirements and is therefore interchangeable with existing versions. Modularity, scalability and interchangeability are requirements Wittur consider as essential.

TwinShield is also available as a modernization solution. Where a building takes on new requirements for fire and smoke resistance, the installation can be modernized with a door that fits to the existing shaft opening and be coupled with the existing car door, in cases where the latter is not being replaced.
