Schindler X8,
the new design lift

 In News

Unveiled at Milan Design Week 2025, the Schindler X8 represents a true breakthrough in elevator design. Offering unparalleled flexibility, it allows designers and architects to rethink layout, aesthetics, and user experience.

The new Schindler X8

Since the elevators’ earliest implementation, they determined much of a building’s spatial design and architectural layout. But with the new Schindler X8, that’s about to change thanks to an innovation launch that allows the elevator to adapt to the project – not the other way around.

For architects and interior designers, it means imagination unleashed and the ability to rethink space in brand new ways. Most significantly, the Schindler X8 removes the need for a structural shaft made out of concrete.
Instead, it offers the flexibility to install an elevator in any part of a building’s footprint with more environmentally friendly construction materials.

No pit is required in the foundation and no headroom above. Schindler X8 only needs one single cutout in the wall.
The innovative dry wall design and integrated doors allows to finish the floors, ceilings and walls before the elevator even arrives on site.

“Architects have designed building interiors around an immovable, central elevator shaft for decades. With the Schindler X8, we are removing that limitation and bringing new levels of simplicity and accessibility to design. Owners and architects can fulfill their vision and bring to life user experiences that were previously impossible,” said Donato Carparelli, Chief Technology Officer on Schindler’s Group Executive Committee.

The innovative Schindler X8 can be installed in new buildings or retrofitted in existing developments, allowing them to be included in previously impossible situations.

Sleek and stylish interiors

Consistent with Schindler’s premium design philosophy, customers can expect exceptional styling and utmost sophistication. The elevator doors combine design and innovation for a simple, frameless, minimalist look that fits harmoniously with the building’s interior.

Users will see the traditional buttons is no longer required and instead replaced with Schindler’s uniarrow, a distinctive ‘wave’ control offering intuitive operation.

There’s a range of options to help the elevator blend with its surroundings and a variety of bespoke aesthetics across lighting, finishing, flooring, and walls.

High-quality materials are the hallmark of Schindler elevators, and, for the Schindler X8, the company offers six unique pre-sets interiors, enabling designers to select the right one for them.

The six options offer a diverse range of striking looks, from the timeless and elegant finish of Luna to the bold and modern Volcano. The Terra design evokes an intense and intriguing feel, while Forest creates a rich and welcoming environment. Mineral brings a fresh, natural appearance, or there’s Savanna, which draws inspiration from bright, warm spaces. Finally, designers can install a mirror, available in both half-height and full-height versions, to complete the exclusive look.

Unparalleled simplification and efficiency

Unlike traditional elevators, the Schindler X8 does not require high-voltage triple-phase power but runs off standard electrical power supplies, like any household appliance. This “plug and play” approach adds to the system’s versatility and makes it particularly well-suited to installations in existing buildings of any kind. The elevators’ advanced and simplified design means that the total time required for production, delivery, installation and handover of the Schindler X8 can be minimized to three weeks. This, plus the integrated door technology, means owners and architects can focus on the project without having to coordinate installation around other partners.

With the groundbreaking Schindler X8 a new era in elevator design has begun, opening up possibilities in building integration and improving the quality of living spaces.
