Environmental accessibility: the second edition of the course

From February to May 2025, the second edition of the inter-university advanced training course ‘Environmental Accessibility’ will be held in Italy, organised by SITdA (Italian Society of Architectural Technology) and, specifically, by its ‘Cluster AA Environmental Accessibility’. The post-graduate course, intended for at least first-level graduates, will last a total of 72 hours and entitle students to 8 CFUs. The Director of the advanced training course is Prof. Adolfo F. L. Baratta, of the University of Roma Tre.

The course consists of 17 modules by many lecturers from different Italian universities. The universities involved in the project are: University of Roma Tre, University of Florence, University Iuav of Venice, University of Ferrara, Polytechnic University of Turin, University of Udine and University La Sapienza of Rome.

The Course

The Environmental Accessibility Advanced Training Course addresses the study of design and technological solutions to overcome obstacles and barriers in order to guarantee accessibility and use in autonomy and safety to spaces, equipment and furnishings for all people.

The training course is structured in a way that firstly provides the necessary knowledge for understanding the subject area and then the tools for applying this knowledge in the field of architecture. The specific objectives are aimed at providing the tools to know how to manage the entire process that leads to the realisation of quality architecture, focusing in the specific thematic field of inclusive design on the interactions between building, environment and context and on the conditions of habitability at the different project scales.

In particular, the course offers skills related to

Knowledge of the history of disability and legislation
Knowledge of the principles of the discipline
Awareness of applications in the architecture of buildings and urban spaces
Knowledge of tools and technologies to improve accessibility
Knowledge of the reading and application of universal design at the different scales of the project

The preparation offered by the Course includes face-to-face training activities and visits.
