 In News

While No. 1/2025 is being distributed, the editorial team is working on No. 2/2025.

Many topics will be featured in this issue.

Standards

Carlo Belletti provides an update on the progress of standardisation work, with respect to what was documented in the article that appeared in issue 6/2024 of Elevatori Magazine, entitled ‘CEN: update on the standardisation situation’.

Here is an excerpt from the article, which will be published in Elevatori Magazine issue 2/2025.

In November 2024, there was a plenary meeting of the CEN/TC10 which, with its working groups, is responsible for drafting all the standards concerning lifting systems, in accordance with both the Lifts Directive and the Machinery Directive (Machinery Regulation from 2027).

In particular, on that occasion:

  • it had to be acknowledged that the anticipated deadlines for EN ISO 8100-1 and 2 were no longer feasible and that it was necessary to request a further extension of 9 months. This extension was approved, establishing 31.03.2025 as the interim deadline by which to define the solution to each comment received during the first formal vote, and 01.09.2025 as the deadline by which to start the second formal vote;
  • it was decided to merge EN 81-70:2021/A1:2022 with ISO 8100-7:2024 to draft a new EN ISO 8100-7, a task that will be entrusted to CEN/TC10/WG7 under the Vienna Agreement (i.e. the activities will be carried out jointly by CEN and ISO members under CEN guidance). The work leading up to CEN publication is to be completed by 30.04.2028, to fall within the M/599 mandate of the European Commission;
  • it was decided to resume the work of the CEN/TC10/WG8 on drafting the EN 81-45 and EN 81-46;
  • the handover from Renè Hermann, who is retiring, to Daniel Bisang as the Convenor of WG1 was formalised.
