Elevators Magazine celebrates 50 years

Friday, November 25, 2022 is a special day for Elevatori Magazine, which celebrates 50 years in business with an event in Milan. An important milestone that we wanted to share with all those who have contributed and continue to contribute to the success of our magazine: for 50 years, in fact, Elevatori Magazine has been accompanying the elevator world, Italian and not only, spreading technical knowledge in our sector.

Founder and editor Eng. Giuseppe Volpe, with the entire editorial staff, welcome the technical committee, authors, associations and companies that place their trust in our magazine on Friday, November 25, 2022, at 5 p.m., at Aslam in Via Amoretti 78, Milan.

Elevatori Magazine celebrates 50 years: the party location

aslam-logo

The location is not a coincidence: in fact, we wanted to celebrate the event at the new Milan headquarters of the Aslam school, where IFTS training courses for elevator maintenance technicians will begin in 2023. Courses strongly desired and promoted by Elevatori Magazine and born precisely in collaboration with Aslam (a training institution accredited in the Lombardy Region that has 6 operating offices in the territory), together with the association Anica and the consortia Consorzio per l’Italia and Tre-E.

IFTS courses are Pathways of Higher Technical Education and Training.

They provide for theoretical, practical and laboratory activities.

In particular, the time devoted to training and company internship activities cannot be less than 40 percent of the total number of hours of the course.

You can learn more on the Lombardy Region portal, on the page dedicated to IFTS courses.

By clicking on the QR Code (or by following this link) you can contact Aslam to give your availability to host internship boys and to contribute to the creation of an in-school laboratory, equipped with all the components on which the boys will be able to gain experience.

The chronicle of the event

After greetings from Maddalena Parotelli, Editor-in-Chief of Elevatori Magazine, founder and Director Giuseppe Volpe, Ambrogino d’Oro in 2007, took the floor. “This is a great achievement of which I am proud,” he said.

Eng. Volpe then recounted, “In ’72 there was no culture in the elevator field and my idea of founding a magazine dedicated to this sector seemed crazy, but instead I was right. When I founded the magazine in 1972, many people were trying to dissuade me. But I could see that there was no information circulating in the industry and I felt the need to circulate information, ideas, to make culture about the elevator, a very important machine because it is the only one that makes thousands of rides a day with people on board, without anyone driving. Any appliance, from the smallest to the largest, is taken out of service after 40 years.”

“Elevatori was for the first 10 years the official organ of the Anacam association,” the Director recalled. “When Anica was born in 1981, immediately a strong link was created with the Component Manufacturers’ Association, and the magazine became its official organ and still is today.

The long history of the magazine, its circulation,” concluded Engineer Volpe, “have proved me right: because along with science and technology there must always be culture.

The evening was also attended by Gianmarco Senna (Regional Councillor in the Lombardy Region and member of the IV Permanent Commission of the Lombardy Region, for productive activities, education, training and employment), who said, “In a world that is changing, that is becoming digitized and that is doing so at an increasingly fast pace, companies need continuous training and for young people to learn how to manage this type of process. Training is an important point. Carlo Carabelli gave some important data on what Aslam does: 95 percent of the guys who finish these vocational courses immediately find a job. Here in Lombardy there is a very strong need for professional figures, about 40,000 in many sectors. We need to do a lot of cultural work in families to make them understand that those who take a vocational course and learn a trade are no less than those who take a traditional university course and experience the mismatch between labor supply and demand. A kid who becomes a skilled worker is a kid who can build a future. And work needs to be done within companies because not all entrepreneurs have a clear vision on training like that of Engineer Volpe, who with Elevatori has been doing training and writing about it for 50 years. And politics has to help all these training processes. The funding is there, with the Pnrr and also with allocations from the Lombardy Region.”

Carlo Carabelli, Director and CEO of Aslam, then took the floor, and before taking those present on a tour of the laboratories the school is setting up for the new Elevator Maintenance course, due to start in 2023, he spoke of the great enthusiasm young people put into their studies when they become passionate about a job. “This happens,” Carabelli said, “when we trainers are able to show the possibility of learning a trade and having a professional future. When, together with companies, we present a well-structured offer to the young people, perhaps with an apprenticeship contract that allows them to join the company from the time they start their studies, it lights their hearts, it makes them passionate. And it’s a success.”

During the celebration we also announced the digitization of the entire historical archive: all issues of the magazine, from 1972 to the present, are now available online at b2c.elevatorimagazine.com. This is a unique body of work, encompassing all elevator knowledge and 50 years of its history in our country.  Having made it available to readers, who can now purchase all past issues, fills Director Eng. Giuseppe Volpe and the entire editorial staff with pride.

With this event we close a year of celebrations, which began with the cover of Elevatori Magazine issue 1/2022, dedicated precisely to our 50th anniversary, continued at Interlift, with a booth dressed for the occasion and with the presentation of the book ’50 years together,’ a story in pictures of the history of Italian and international elevator maintenance as seen through the covers of the magazine’s issues. The celebrations then continued at Lift Expo Italia, where we moderated the ‘Industry and University’ conference in which we spoke for the first time in public about the new course for Elevator Maintenance Technicians starting in 2023.

Elevatori Magazine, with its 50th anniversary, continues to look to the future!
