Luca Borgonovo (SMI – Scale Mobili) has been appointed by the Technical Committee of UNI Elevators and Escalators (Ente Italiano di Standardizzazione) to represent Italy at CEN (European Committee for Standardization). “We are ready and eager to give our contribution to improve the safety standards of escalators and moving walkways,” is the final comment on the post that appeared on SMI’s official page on Linkedin, with which the company announced the news on February 10, 2022.

The main directives affecting escalators and moving walks are:
– Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive): this directive applies to escalators and lifting equipment that are outside the scope of the Lifts Directive.
– Directive 2004/108/EC (EMC Directive): related to electromagnetic compatibility which applies to escalators and elevators,

The technical committee CEN / TC 10 /WG has the task to update the EN 115 family of codes (EN 115-1 / EN 115-2 / EN 115-3 / EN 115-4 and prEN 115-5) and several other tasks related to escalators for EN countries.
