Elevatori Magazine’s May Round Table took place in Milan
On 21 May 2026, Elevatori Magazine held its latest round-table discussion, entitled ‘Modernising lifts in apartment buildings for a sustainable future’.
The event took place in Milan on Thursday 21 May 2026, at the Multimedia Room of CNOS-FAP Lombardia – Milan (Salesiani don Bosco per la Formazione Professionale), at 62 Via Melchiorre Gioia.
Elevatori Magazine’s Round Table is a permanent platform dedicated to the modernisation of existing lifts, conceived and established by Elevatori Magazine and launched on 10 July 2025 with a landmark event held at the Politecnico di Milano (click here to find out more and to read the event’s founding charter).

Elevatori Magazine’s round-table discussions have been set up with the specific aim of bringing together all stakeholders in the sector – companies, technicians, designers, maintenance engineers, associations, regulatory bodies and the training sector – to discuss the industry’s current and future challenges, focusing on the central theme of modernising existing lifts, particularly in block of flats. As we all know, this is a hugely important issue, because in Italy alone there are around 500,000 systems in need of modernisation.
At Elevatori Magazine, we firmly believe in the value of direct dialogue and in the opportunity to create meaningful opportunities for discussion, capable not only of exploring technical and regulatory issues in depth, but also of building relationships and fostering new opportunities for collaboration.
Elevatori Magazine’s Round Table Discussion on 21 May 2026
It was a great pleasure to welcome so many professionals, technicians, and representatives from companies, associations, certification bodies and notified bodies, as well as property managers and representatives from the world of education – including the Politecnico di Milano at university level and post-secondary institutions such as CNOS-FAP Lombardia, the Salesians’ vocational training organisation, which hosted us at its Milan headquarters and to whom we extend our thanks for their hospitality. Our thanks go to Eninter, Everest and Montebianco, the sponsors of this event.
The opening remarks were delivered by Dr Angela Castelli, Director of CNOS-FAP Lombardia (Salesians), and Professor Vito Rosone, Electrical Sector Coordinator at CNOS-FAP Lombardia – Salesians, who outlined the Salesians of Lombardy’s vocational training programme and, in particular, presented the new training course for lift technicians organised by the institute, due to start in the coming months. A new course, about which we will provide our readers with full details, a project in which several maintenance companies have placed their trust and which Elevatori Magazine has proudly agreed to support through its educational initiatives and informative and training contributions, including the magazine and the volumes in the ‘How it works’ series, which can be useful to the younger generation in preparing for a career as a lift technician.
Giuseppe Volpe, founder and director of our magazine, also took the opportunity to address the audience who had gathered in Milan for the Elevatori Magazine Round Table.

As the round table got underway, the topic of energy efficiency in our sector was addressed, with a presentation by Claudio Donghi, a member of the ISO/TC178/WG10 ‘Energy Efficiency’ Committee and the Technical Committee of Elevatori Magazine, and editor of the latest volume in the ‘How It Works’ series, Come funziona 7 – Sustainability, published in 2025 with contributions from many companies in our sector. This presentation, entitled ‘Lifts and energy efficiency for a more sustainable world’, highlighted how it is possible to reduce lift energy consumption through modernisation.
Barbara Manco, technical advisor at ANICA, then provided further insight into these issues, adding further details on the measures that can be taken regarding various components to improve the efficiency of Italy’s lift fleet in her presentation entitled ‘Energy savings in existing lifts’. Barbara provided concrete examples, highlighting, among other things, how the decision to replace less efficient components with more efficient ones may appear to be an expense to be incurred, when in reality, in the long run, this choice proves to be a guaranteed saving.
The discussion then turned to the reasons that might lead flat owners to decide to modernise a lift system. Foremost among these is safety: an issue often underestimated by users, yet one that is of paramount importance. Maurizio Coretti, representing Anacam, spoke on this subject.
The floor was then given to Giorgia Feneri, President of UN.I.O.N. – the Italian Union of Notified and Authorised Bodies – and a member of the Technical Committee of Elevatori Magazine. The discussion continued with her on the topics of safety, regulations and system inspections, clarifying the issue of the ‘Regulatory Boundary between Repair, Replacement and Modernisation. When must the Notified Body intervene?
To conclude the round table, Daniela Pavan, Chair of the UNI/CT 019 Committee on ‘Lifts, goods lifts, escalators and similar equipment’ and a member of the Technical Committee of Elevatori Magazine, devoted her presentation to an update on the standards currently under discussion within the Lifts Committee and, consequently, to the future development of technical standards in the lift sector.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Leonardo Caruso, President of ANACI Milan, was unable to attend this round table. We look forward to welcoming him at the round table in July.
This day of discussion has confirmed just how important it is to create opportunities for dialogue among all stakeholders in the supply chain, particularly at a time of significant technological, regulatory and cultural change within our sector. At Elevatori Magazine, we will continue to promote opportunities for in-depth discussion and exchange such as this one, convinced that the sector’s growth also depends on the ability to share ideas, experiences and visions. The next event is scheduled for 10 July 2026 at the Politecnico di Milano, for a new meeting of the Elevatori Magazine Round Table, dedicated to the modernisation of lift systems in apartment blocks.
